As you all know, since March 12th all salons in Ireland have been closed. This has been such a surreal experience for everyone as most of us see our hair as our crowning glory. To be told we can not have our 4-6 week root touch-up, weekly blow-dry, t-bar or trim and shape along with all other services was a big deal. For us as hairdressers, it was very hard as we are so used to meeting so many people on a daily basis and catching up with clients. To be told to stay at home was tough. Most of us joined social media groups to keep “in the loop” of what was happening and took part in online training. For me personally, it was very helpful to have other salon owners giving information and advise in moving forward with preparations to reopen and it has shown me that our industry have a very supportive attitude towards other salon owners and hairdressers and that makes me so proud!
Today the government have announced that on 29th June we can reopen our doors, following the guidelines put into place for us to work safely. This means that salons will be very different from how we remember them, but i think we are all ready to take all of these changes on.
Courses & Training
During the course of the lockdown i have completed many courses, mostly Health & Safety training. This is to ensure that the highest of standards are maintained at Silke Hair. We have very high standards, but this training gives us the extra confidence moving forward that the salon will be a safe and sterile environment for my clients to visit.
Oncology Training International
Silke Hair is a salon which focuses on Hair Loss. This includes Cancer related Hair Loss. I have trained in all aspects of Hair Loss and Wig and Hair Replacement Systems. As part of that i came across this course last year. It is specific Oncology Aesthetics Training which allows me to have the knowledge of all aspects of cancer treatment so i have a better understanding of each customers different needs and treatments they are receiving. This allows me to advise each person on the best treatments and product that are available to them.
The training’s offered by Oncology Training International (OTI) have been revolutionizing the salon/spa industry since 2007; and OTI continues to be a driving force to change this approach. People living with cancer and other comorbidities need to be afforded the most current information for optimum benefits.
Whether you are a cancer survivor; a salon/spa professional, or healthcare professional – our training’s will help you understand the “aesthetic” (physical) and emotional needs for clients with cancer, plus to overcome the challenges in providing them with salon/spa services. When doing so, we need to treat our clients properly – with respect, empathy and compassion
This course have given me an even greater respect for anybody who is going through any type of oncology treatment. Silke Hair is now in a position now to be able to assist and provide comfort through products and services in the knowledge that it is safe in conjunction with medical treatments. Every person is different which in turn means that everyone reacts to treatment differently, but with this training i am now in a position to provide safe advise to all my clients. Lockdown gave me the opportunity to complete this course which in normal circumstances would have been put on the long finger, so for this i am grateful.
Silke Hair looks forward to welcoming all our customers back to the salon, in the confidence that we are all doing our bit to move forward safely.
Be your own kind of beautiful x
